This piece is inspired by the soft, starry sparkles that cover a fragile cactus flower. They’re subtle, until you look closer and then you really notice them. What must the bees think?! Impatiens are like this too. Hot red sparkles like a ruby slipper, they should be garish but somehow they’re not. Soft and letttucy, they leave me wanting to peel back some invisible layer to get to the true heart of their sparkle, like sweeping aside the sand in Coober Pedy to reveal an opal. But of course you can’t, they remain embedded, just out of reach.
