This piece is about fragments and ephemera that exist in our memories, part misty thought, part a scrap of colour maybe a tiny lilting tune, its origins forgotten but still it holds. For years I had a memory of tiny pears we used to eat. They were crunchy and sweet and the novelty of their smallness stuck in my mind. I searched for them in a bout of nostalgia some years ago but to no avail. Asking my mum if she remembered them; “Paradise Pears” she said straight away. The relief, like scratching an itch. Breathing life into what has sat in my mind for 30 summers. This is a small thing but it’s made me think about how easily we are lost, parts of our lives, names of distant relatives forgotten over time, until we call them back to the present and decide what to bring along. Paradise Pears, also called Sugar Pears, 'Faccia Bella' or crystal pears. May you find the missing piece to your small memories.
